    Mice displayed a significant decrease of goblet cell numbers in the duodenum, jejunum and ileum compared to controls. In both colon and rectum, partially or completely empty vacuoles were observed in goblet cells. Overall granule density was reduced, indicating fewer mucins contained within each granule compared to controls. The mucin expression profile was dramatically altered.
